I've got a slow leak that has gotten worse coming from my oil filter, bolt is tightened all the way. Any ideas what could be causing this? And what I can do to fix it?

When was the last time you changed the filter? Did you replace the O-rings?

Get yourself a torque wrench if you don't have one....of all the bolts, that is one of the most critical torque wise...

REPLACE both o-rings and torque to spec.

The filter housing only goes to 11 ft/lbs.

I replaced the oil filter less than 2 months ago, I didn't think to check the o-rings I'll give it a shot

The FRAM CH6003 filter comes with both o-rings; as do the Wix and NAPA (supplied by Wix) equivalents.

Tape the Drain Screws Threads with PTFE or Teflon Tape.
    3 tight layers.

Install a NEW crush washer on the drain plug and torque to spec.

I tried the Teflon tape suggestion.. i put it on 24 hours ago, and have not leaked one drop! But now my question is will this continue to work after the engine heats up?
Im headed to the moto rally in Ruidoso, NM this weekend and dont want any surprises on my ride up there. Not sure what kind of abuse this tape can handle but i feel like there is a chance it could disintegrate after a little time on the road.

I have in my stable a 13 tonne truck, 2 cars and several motorbikes. They all get the Teflon tape treatment and not one has leaked once between oil changes , cheers, Murray
