Hello All! I have been reading posts for a few days and wow there is some knowledge here!! I had to join! I am bobbing a 650xj, it has 15K, pics to come.

I have seen a few posts already about oil leaks. exhaust leaks, but want to ask a couple Qs.

    1. MAC 4-1 exhaust, where can i get gaskets that will work? I have just a small leak on cyl 1.
    2. I have small oil leaks from the top left side of the motor and the middle gasket across the entire motor. At Middle gasket small bubbles can be seen while running on left side. Leave it alone and just fill oil here and there? How complicated to redo the gaskets? (As this would be the right way)

I think the oil was overfilled and this caused the oil leak issue? What do you think?

    3. Also, the Left side of the motor seems to make a tapping sound at idle and under load until 3grand. Letting the motor run a bit it quiets, but never dissapear. Valve issue/CAMs/low oil?

Let me know what you think! Thanks!

#1 You should be able to get exhaust gaskets from ebay (or from chacal). I don't think the Mac whould need a special gasket but I'm not sure.

#2 If your talkin the valve cover gasket - Remove the cover, get a new gasket, check the valce clearences while in there, replace cover with new gasket.

If its the head gasket - personaly I would replace it but its your call

#3 My XJ sound like it has a tap and and is how you discribed it. Mine is from an exhaust leak. If you have not done so yet you might want to check valve clearences to make sure(only if your up to the job get some help if your not). You should here some clicking or light tapping on these bikes quiet valves is where the real problem is.

Thanks for the info! I do belive that the ticking is comming out of the exhaust head. After you mentioned it, i looked further, and its def while under load.

I am going to order some gaskets and see if it leaves.
I am going to price the head gasket repairs as well.

    Thanks again!
