    Hi All,

I'm rebuilding my engine and just put the oil pump and chain back in. I noted quite a bit of play in the chain and was wondering if that was common. Couldn't find anything in my documentation about it, so thought I'd ask the guru's.

    Anyone anyone?

Normal play would be fine but alot of slack will eventually result in it slapping the cases, but if there wasn't any bottom end noise prior overhauling than it should be fine.. there's a tensioner guide inside just for it though, look if its worn or the chain itself is. another thing to note is the nozzle which lubricates the chain and guide, inspect and clean it if clogged.

My spare 750 motor (5500 miles) has quite a bit of slack in the oil pump chain too. I think that's normal.

How do you check the oil pump chain? Will it require draining the oil? I have a funny noise coming from the bottom and i have not been able to pin it down.
