So I changed my oil the other day and refilled it with the specs from the manual and also by sight in the little window. There is a tiny bubble on the top of the window now when the bike has been sitting for a bit, but when I ride around for just a bit, all the oil appears and there isn't anything in the window but a few drops. Is this normal? I would guess that the oil is in use, thus not just sitting the bottom of the case waiting for me to peep it though the looking glass.

    Any thoughts??

    Thanks! You all rock.

    Bike is a 81 550 Max.

That is normal. The oil should be checked cold, with the bike level on the centre stand. Hit the startermotor and the oil level will not show in the window! As you guessed it is doing it's job inside the motor.
