I'm leaking oil from somewhere on the left side of the engine. I can see a drip from near the top of the cylinder, but I can't figure out where exactly it's coming from. I ride to work whenever the temp is above freezing and it's getting all over my work pants. A little oil on my old Levis is cool, but I have to show up at work and wear dress pants and the oil drops don't look too cool. It looks like a spray just above my ankle on my left leg. Any advice on how to pinpoint the leak?

These are always fun. I've got oil on the BACK SIDE of my clutch cover from a leaky fork seal because of how the wind works at speed.

Get the motor SQUEAKY clean then go for a 5 minute ride and look. Then let the bike sit and idle for a few and look. Repeat, and look. You've got to catch it when it appears or you will get fooled every time. And trust me, fork oil will go the darndest places if you've got a couple pissy seals.

If its not fork oil, i'd bet on the valve cover. I had one of the corner bolts just let go on my way to work one morning - Didn't notice till I got off the bike and saw my pants!

    Not good.

I will try that. I haven't seen any oil on the forks at all, so my sense is engine oil from somewhere, but I will get the toothbrush out and scrub the motor good again and see if I can find the exact spot. My guess is that the leak is somehere, point A and dripping to point B where it hits the wind and sprays.
