Ok a friend dropped by with his 550 and just put 3 litres of oil. His first ride of the summer. He only lives 3 houses away and when he got to my place the oil light came on. When he stopped and checked the window no oil was there. We sat and chatted for a few minutes and still no oil returned to the window. When he drove to my place he did not leave a trail of smoke and right now it is about 23 degrees and for you yanks thats around 75-80.

My oil returns just fine, but he didn't want to hear that. :p

3 litres is well over 3 quarts. The motor should be way overfilled.... Maybe what you are seeing is clear and clean oil thru the window and have mistaken it for no oil at all?

made that mistake before. clean oil is kinda hard to tell if it's there or not if it's over full. if no visible leaks then i'd drain a little into a clean container and see if you can see a level in the sight-glass then.

i get what you both are saying and he watched it as he filled it and the site glass filled with the nice golden colour as he filled it up. I will mention to him tomorrow.

Secondly, the oil light should not come on if it is over full should it? I know mine didn't. I did the too much oil when i first got my bike because the sight glass was filthy.

well You err He's:) got a real problem then
Oil can only go 2 places : On the ground or out the tailpipe.
On the ground should be a visible trail. out the pipe should be a Fog Machine cloud down the street it drove on..

Yup he's an *ahem* older gentleman and had the bike for many years before i picked mine up, and uses the center stand exclusively. I will be going over to his place after work. We might be tearing down and searching for black gold.

Hey now Danilo I get where you are going with that smiley and trust me if it was my dumb problem I would own up because I am no expert and know it. :)
