One of my neighbors hit the carport where my 86 XJ was parked collapsing it onto my motorcycle. From what it appears it looks like the end on this bike because it crushed and bent many parts, and possibly the frame since the kickstand was bent upwards.

Wish me luck on collecting on this!

Actually she was a brunette, with her sister.

I am not exactly thrilled about this

this is morbid, but we need pictures. I'm sure there are some vultures, um people that would love some parts...me included if you do part it.

I really should get some pics up here and will do that as soon as I can. As far as aprting it out I do not know yet, there is someone from the insurance company coming out to look at it this week.

The insurance company asked me to bring it to the shop for an estimate which I have done. Now I am waiting to hear from the shop.

Dont accept what the insurance company want to pay - anyway, wouldn't it be in your neighbours interest to pay you directly - supposing you have a similar "No claims bonus" system to the UK?

The header pipes from this xj which are original and in very good shape do not appear to be bent. Would someone be willing to buy these? How much are they worth?

You may want to push your insurance company to bring in an independepent appraiser to evaluate the pre-crushing value of the bike. I had to do that with mine when it was run over by a guy making a U-turn with a 5th wheel in the parking lot where my SECA was parked. The appraiser made about $1000 difference in what the insurance paid.

I got $2200 for the bike from the insurance company. I'm still looking for another XJ to buy. In the meantime I bought a 05 Bonneville, and an 05 Sportster.

Did it take from 2009 to now to get this sorted?

the insurance company will declare it a loss and give you $500.

anything over 15 years has no value. unless it's in pristine condition. and insured as a classic.

that's generally how it works. but there are tricks to getting more.

The insurance company settled about 14 months ago, paying me $2200 for the crushed motorcycle. Maybe I should have gotten back here sooner. Anyway, this is a fun web page!
