Opinions needed.. should I or shouldn't I?

So I am sure most of you are familiar with VooDoo...my 82 Maxim reborn

Well, I was going through some pics to include with the bike for a huge art show they have here in Grand Rapids (Art Prize..my bike is part of an entry with 10 other bikes entitled "Art in Motion and the Biker Lifestyle"...anywho...

As I'm lookin over the pics I came across one of the in-process pics just prior to paint...



I really like the 'bulldog' look it has here. While I love the fairing, I'm not sure I ever I 'nailed' the windshield on this build. Even though I cut the windshield on my fairing almost in half, I think that it's still too tall and detracts a little from the over look...



So I did a little photochopping and was thinking of doing something like this..



whaddya think guys, yeas, nays?? How short would you go?

 

Wow man I have never seen your bike. Must say that is SEXY. I Love the fairing. I think your best bet is the middle shot. I Like the larger windshield personally. Just my $.02

 

I have to agree. I think you "nailed" the height as it sits right now; it completely flows with the lines of the fairing.

Cutting it down will give it more of a "bullnose" look but I think it cuts into the smooth line you have now, too low.

 

That bike is bad ass. I do think the cut down is a little low maybe somewhere in the middle.

 

I think you should make the change as drawn. I think the fairing/windshield combo is a bit too bulky and the cut-down look like you show helps even it out.

 

At most I would flatten out the radius of the top edge a little bit but I think the more extreme chop throws off the overall flow of the bike.

 

I like the idea of the shorter windshield, but don't like that the way you cut it down.

what if you could get a sport type windshield like this...

it's full without the cut out on top like in your pic.

Only thing I would change is the reflector, you could put a silver cover LED light (when on it could still be orange but off it would appear silver) there to maintain safety but improve the color profile.

Yamaha should be proud of your mods.

I have the same fairing and need a shield. Do you by chance know of somewhere I can get one? By the way, I like the last one the best. The tuning forks are a nice touch as well.

Man i really like the side cover's, but I am in love with the exhaust! Where did you get that???

The lowest you can go, but with the rounded edge, is my pick.

Rover I fabricated that exhaust myself and then had it ceramic coated, all the info is in the build thread.


Mrbug, I have no idea where to get a replacement shield. There is no compound curvature to the windshield though, so theoretically you could do this; Make a template out of heavy card stock like poster board. Get a piece of plexiglass, mark out the template, cut the plexi, then use a heat gun and CAREFULLY heat the plexi while bending it to help shape it a little. I might try to get a piece of dark smoked plexi and do this. If I do I will post a thread on the process. 8)

 

Would Gustaffson's out of Florida have a windshield for your bike?
