1993 YJ Jeep Wrangler . . . Rust color!
Helen (full name is Helen Wheels) is on her last legs, stuff is literally falling off of her.
This spring I removed the front sway bar as it was in need of repair and I couldn't see spending $$$$ on fixing it (jeep = Just Empty Every Pocket). While removing it one of the bump stops above the axle fell off. . . Rusted!
Removing a sway bar isn't for everyone. I have Old Man Emu heavy duty leaf springs on all 4 corners so there is still stability . . . And I drive it like a jeep, not an Italian sports car.

I can put my fist through the rust hole on the drivers side rocker panel. Wisconsin uses WAY too much salt in the winter.

Subaru impreza, lifted a couple inches so it'll jump easier. The XJ replaced my 1971 VW Fastback, and that replaced a 1947 Willys, which replaced a 1979 Mercedes 450SEL 6.9 (look it up, unless you've already seen Ronin the movie), which replaced a 1979 Coupe Deville.

My life has basically just been a series of projects.

Last winter there were three weeks in January when I didn't ride the XJ at least once.

For hauling kids to school and football: 1999 Ford Explorer 4x4 with 260,000 miles - gas mileage sucks, but need the room for equipment.

For family trips, and my wife's daily driver: 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix with 204,000 miles - much better mileage than the Explorer

Before the kids (and one I should have kept anyway) - 1992 Chevy C1500 with 270,000 miles

    Next vehicle purchase :
1986-88 Camaro Z28 (been dreaming of this car since I was 10 years old)
    or
Mid to late 80s Goldwing or Venture (wife wants to have a touring bike)

When I'm not on the bike I'm usually lumbering around in one of the trucks. I love my trucks but nothing beats the XJ. 1999 Ford F-150, 2006 Dodge Ram 2500.

Ya, I'm relegated entirely to the pleasure of my XJ700. I USED to drive my beloved 03 Saturn Vue. Kept it mint, it still is EXCEPT (big frown) for the dreaded, deadly VTI transmission. The second one failed out of warrantee
with 22K miles. Can you believe that? and GM told me to go suck eggs. 22K!
WEAK! So there it sits until I can muster the wherewithal to convert it to a manual. Am I bitter at GM? Your damn right I am. MY butt hurts. But now the trusty old XJ gets all my attention, and she's loving it. And so am I.
    Later.

I really don't remember if I posted to this thread or not.......

My daily drive is a 204 PT Cruiser with 268,700 mi on it. Maybe, just maybe, I'll see it turn 300,000.If I can ring another couple of years out of it.

If I'm not in the PT, then I'm in my '95 Chevy 3500 Dually extended cab w/ 8" box, fully loaded 4x4 w/ chevy 454 big block that only has 116,000 mi on it. Yeah, it only gets 8 mpg...... but every day that I ride the bike gives me a day for the truck, too----- 45 mpg with the bike, and 8 mpg with the truck...... add them together and you get 53 mp2g for an average of almost 27 mpg. Read that through a couple times, and you'll be able to justify your truck AND your bike to SWMBO, too!
