My XJ700N with Hitachi HSC 33 carbs has two tubes that seem to be intended as overflow tubes. There's one between #'s 1& 2 and #'s 3 & 4, and they are routed down the back of the engine. They seem to be mounted too high (about center of the throat) on the carbs to actually work as overflow tubes. What are they?

I thought they were overflow tubes too. I had fuel coming out of them during carb setup.....

    Overflow tubes. No.
    Vent tubes. Yes.

Pipe, Starter Con: 4V7-14988-00-00. Part #29 in the schematic.

This provides atmospheric venting for the float bowls to allow the carbs to function properly. Another EPA modification. Maybe.

Thanks. That's probably the reason the bike ran like crap when I connected them with a tube to see if I was losing gas during running.
