I'll throw in my 2 pennies as a guy that has spent a couple of months dealing with a similar problem. My Seca 550 came with a 4-into-1 that was rusty, ugly, and loud as all get out. Not acceptable! Because I bought this bike to recapture a little youth I had missed out on (because I couldn't afford this bike back in 82), I wanted to restore it to stock. It took a while to find an original exhaust that was in good shape. The collector was pretty bad though. So I spent the better part of 2 days degreasing it, sanding it down to remove any rust, and then layers of high temp Rustoleum. While pitted, it looked pretty good.

Now, I don't know how much rust you are dealing with. You might want to upload some pictures for members to see. What are your expectations too? And, what are you financial resources? If you are having problems locating a system in the condition you want, and your system does not have perforating rust, the consider Cermakrome. It looks nice, and is a type of powercoating. Re-chroming isn't really an option due to the cost.

I will mention that Rustoleum makes a chrome- colored paint, and I put a bit of it on my exhaust in a hidden area where I had a little rust to test it out. I'll report back after a 1,000 miles to let everyone know if it can take the heat; it's not a high temp paint.

if it's not rusted through clean it up good and then buy this: http://www.vhtpaint.com/products/flameproof/ pick your color follow the instructions and get to painting. Good to 2000 degrees and tough when cured properly.

Aluminum melts at 1220 so your engine would melt in a puddle between your legs before you burn this stuff off.

If you want to do the wrap as well I've done that a few times too.

Cong place your bike year model and miles in your signature. That way we all know what bike you're talking about. There's alot of us here. Someone may even have one in good shape they're willing to part with pretty cheap!

This is the Mac 4 into 1 that I refinished. I used a lot of "elbow grease" while using a wire brush and degreaser. Then used Eastwoods rust converter and let it set for two days. I finished it off with Rustoleum 2000 degree flat black.

It has not been mounted since so I couldn't attest to the durability. I only know that its way better than what Mac puts on as original.

I had mine ceramic coated and it stops and prevents rust. I clean it up after rides and keep the moisture down as much as possible. Looks great and wasn't too expensive.
