My exhaust pipes are getting really discolored, so I am thinking about painting them. I know rustoleum makes a high temp paint that can with stand up to 2000 degrees, but I wanted to know if anyone else had done this and what they recommended.

    Thanks

Yeah, these were an after-market 4-1 system. Flat black BBQ. If you still have a chrome set I'm not sure what you'd have to do in order to prep them for paint. For mine it was just get rid of the rust and make sure they're dry beforehand.

I'm going to paint mine in the next little while. They are 4 to 1. I was told you need to prime them before using any heat resistant paint on them. If you don't I was told the heat paint will burn off eventually. How long ago did you do yours mwhite74? How are they holding up?

i also just painted headers about 2 months ago without primer. the header paint needs to be applied exactly as it says on the can. the important part about this paint is that its cured correctly for the chemicals in it to set in, and do their high temp. job. get rid of all old rust and tape off the rest of your bike with newspaper and 3M painters tape. i didnt use bbq paint however, so i cannot speak on how that works out. i bought two cans of high temp header paint spray cans from my local Advanced Auto Parts store for a little over $9.00 each. well worth it in my opinion for restoring an old bike like mine( 83 seca xj750r), which beats paying for new headers, which can run for about 300-400 dollars for a 4 into 2 set
