My bike has a few chips out of the tank paint about the size of a pin head. There is no rust, just no paint. The front fender also has a small bit of rust on one spot.

Is there some way for me to do a touch-up that won't look embarassing? The chips on the tank are only really visible if you look closely, so I don't want to butcher it up. I'm just concerned that if I don't do something, it'll start to rust. (Especially since it got caught in the rain while I was out two days ago.)

Would I be better off paying a professional, even for such a small job?

    Thanks.

Its really hard to to a good touch up job. I just repainted one of my side covers... found some paint that matched the dark metalic canyon red at Autozone, removed the emblem and re-painted the cover. Its actually not bad and certainly looks alot better than what it was.

Having said that, if I needed to repaint my tank I'd remove it and take it (and the side covers) to a proffessional and have it done right. Few people have the skills and equipment to to a good paint job.

If you are planning on keeping the bike to ride then do it right.
