What is the best way to restore the factory grey paint on the aluminum sidecover bezel? Managed to find a right one (and a broken left) for 55 bucks on eBay. Supposedly these are hard to find.

I also want to repaint the side rail that the grab rail bolts onto and the engine covers. I am tempted to polish them all but want to go for that factory restored look.

The ones I currently have on are in pretty good shape but I don't want to mess with them. I am starting the spare parts box for winter.

Also, any good ideas how to remove the paint on the aluminum and plastic?

One the Al, you can use aircraft stripper, available at most automotive stores. Remove the plastic part from the side cover first, the stripper will eat right into it. I don't think the al on the side covers was painted at all, just clear coated over the satin finish . The Plastic pieces should be sanded. I'd start w/120 grit and when you start to see the original paint, switch to something finer like 220 or so. Finish w/400-600 grit, prime, wet sand with 800, then paint...

MB - I think he is talking about the battery cover - at least that is the link that Hydro is showing. The battery cover on my Seca is plastic.
