Today's agenda was to finally mount the 750 tank!

I must have done the fill, shake, flush routine 2 dozen times until it started to drain clean.

Anyhow, the situation at hand... I was able to mount the tank so I took a short ride. After said ride, I inspected the petcock once more and noticed it appeared wet. The arrow in the picture is directed at a small "port" of sorts. I did notice it when I was rebuilding the petcock and thought it was strange. It's as though it is intended to allow air flow or something? I'm stumped...

After dabbing off the petcock with a rag, I was able to witness this "port" let a very miniscule amount of fuel seep out! Its not running out just seeping. Whats going on here?

I paid very close attention when I tore it all down. Since that little plastic piece has locator tabs, I am certain I did not get it reversed. Have I over looked something or do I just need to torque the mounting screws a little tighter?

I will also add that this happens while running and not running. The leaky behavior does not change either way, no more-no less.....

If you are lucky the screws are loose. Fuel leaking from there means the shutoff diaphram has a hole in it. Time to replace it. Don't ride it until its replaced, it can get bigger and leak lots of gas. Not a good situation on a hot motor.

The gasket doesn't seal that, it's a vent port. You have yourself a bad valve and need to rebuild the petcock.

I hope that certainly is not the case. It is a brand new diaphragm. I just put it in there a few days ago. It even shipped to me in a little protective sheath!

I reckon I'll pull the tank off and open the back of it. I am hoping it just didn't seal/seat properly. If all else fails, I'll just throw the other petcock on there....

Those diaphrams can be easliy overtightned and cut . Pull it out and check.

Did you polish the seat and inards? I am sure you have already looked it over, but here is Fitz link, very thorough. It might give some pointers that may help you find the issue.
