I have 1982 650 maxim with vacumn operated petcock. Is it possible to swap with non-vacumn type from a different year?

    Thanks

Easier to swap with non-vacuum aftermarket unit. Yamaha used the vacuum unit long before and after the XJs.

Not all that expensive either, considering a Yamaha "official" replacement usually runs well over $100.

FWIW - the Yamaha dirt and dual sport bikes have manual (i.e., non-vacuum) petcocks. My '94 XT600E has one; it is used on a list of XT550/600 models and is $20.55 at the on-line OEM parts places. Do not know if the non-vacuum petcocks have the same bolt sizes as the vacuum ones. Not sure if the petcocks from the XT225/250 will flow the required amount of fuel (might be the reason for the different part #s) but would be worth a try. As would going to a dirt bike shop with your original to see if one would match-up.

I just put an inline shot off valve and left the petcock as is on mine. It's cheaper (about $2 at any small engine lawn equipment store or hardware store) and works perfect.
