Picked up 2 more bikes from CL - not sure what I was thinkin

Well I really stepped in it this time.. probably in way over my head but I couldn't resist. Got 2 bikes for $400. 1984 Kawasaki KZ550 Spectre bobber-in-progress and a 1980 Yamaha XS650 basket case. :wink:

The KZ550 is mostly together but the carbs, exhaust, pegs, and brakes are off and the PO did some weird sheet metal work on the back part of the frame that will need to be fixed. It came with a 4-1 header but no muffler. The carbs are completely torn apart but he said they were soda-blasted and they look super clean. That's first on the list - carb kits & get them back together.. hopefully I have all the bits. Bad news - he couldn't find the title but is trying to get a copy sent from Arkansas (I know, I know..). I'll add a couple pics later.

The XS650 is just a roller with a bad motor (he said "blown piston") and a good spare bottom end that's on an engine stand. The jugs, head, and rocker cover have all been soda-blasted. I think most everything is there except a tank, headlight, and kickstand. Worse news - he never had the title for this one. 8O SMH. Soooooo... I might just end up parting this one (or both of them) out but I'm going to try to get the title through Vermont DMV (http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=4 ... title.html). I've always wanted to build an XS650 chopper so I just couldn't resist! No pics of this one yet but there ain't really much to look at.

You're very brave but they were very cool bikes originally, good luck with both of them 8)

 

Both are fun bikes. Good find. Looks like the KZ's tail is hacked off. An excellent site for it is www.kzrider. com. Lots of knowledgeable people for those bikes on that site. The VT registrations worked well for me and cheap. It's my state FL transfer cost is what stung. Hope your state is better. Best if the PO gets a.copy title done for you.
