This is getting a little confusing? Is there an actual thread about the clunk test...pretty sure I saw it at one time or another, but my search has left me with too many threads to read..

I'm moving forward slowly on my rebuild of the Seca 750 carbs...so far, I've completely disassembled (soaked and cleaned)and reassembled both #1 and #4 carbs. Both carbs are squeaky clean and both pistons make an authoritative "Clunk" when raised and released....my problem is #4 drops much more quickly, while #1 seems to have to overcome a (very) slight vacuum suction.. In other words, both make a nice CLUNK sound...but #4 seems to free fall and #1 is a more "controlled fall"...if that make sense...
Which is preferred? And what is the best method to achieve the preferred "Clunk"?
    Any assistance is appreciated.

If the carb hats are on, then the slides will fall slowly as the diaphragms are "in play" as it were. Not a lot of "clunk" involved.

With the carb hats OFF, the slides should be able to drop smoothly with an authoritative "clunk."

Thanks for the quick response...went back and double checked...one carb hat was tight and the other I hadn't tightened the screws...hence the free fall and controlled fall...once snugged up, they are virtually identical.
    Thanks!

On to stripping #3 and an overnight "bath".
