So today my number 2 cylinder decided it wasn't going to fire for me. Came home and checked the plug condition, all good. Checked for spark, no good. Also I got zapped both times I tried (plug grounded to engine, I was holding the plastic/rubber part of the cap/boot assembly)

    Time for new caps?

I have ridden in the rain a few times over the last couple weeks, and it rained today while my bike was parked outside at work (under a cover though)

The original plug wires were not the best and the caps with the little resistors can go bad.
Fire the bike up in the dark and mist the plug wires and caps with water in a trigger sprayer. If you see a light show you can do coil wire replacement surgery or go with xj4ever's Dyna coils and mounts. Fresh wires and coils are nice making of a high powered ignition system.
Personally I am going to be installing a set on my 83 750 because the coils and wires are junk. Look for my new thread here soon on Dyna Coil install.

Caps are non resistor type, resistor plugs. For some reason BP7ES not available I'm Canada, only BPR7ES the resistor type.

You got zapped. Time for new caps, and possibly new wires.
