"Plug Chop" - RPM or speed?

    I'm curious as to whether it's necessary to get the bike running at highway speed in order to do the traditional "plug chop" test. Will running at high RPM in a lower gear get the same result?

    Only sort of, because the load characteristics are different.

    Running at a higher RPM in a lower gear will give you better results than you'd get with NO load, however.

    If a person were to do "Plug Chops" for the purpose of adjusting the Pilot Jet, then the bike should be run under a load condition that is "off-idle", but not engaging the Main Jet or Slider-Needle.

    This would be about 2MM of "twist", maintained for about a minute, then kill and coast. I think 50 MPH in top gear would do it.

    Other throttle settings would test other parts of the carb.

    Never heard of doing a plug chop for the pilot jet. That's not the common way to find the right setting for the pilot jet.

    But it's the only thing that's easily adjustable, and it affects drivability.
