hi there guys i was wondering if i put a pod filter inside the air box on my 85 xj900 would i still come across the problem of having to re jet the carbs. im just after an easy to get filter and possibly a bit better fuel economy as im currently getting about 250 to 300ks ou of a tank.

I'd just go and get a UNI filter... they're cheap and you just oil and clean em (and they flow better than paper filters).

Should be able to get it at any parts store.

lol pod filters in the air box!!! AHAHAHAHAHAH OMG, hahaha! what the funk is the point! THe ose are 1. for looks 2. to REMOVE the airbox 3. increased performance, and you are going to accomplish none of those! you will jsut have to cut holes i nthe air box, rejet, and man what a painful and costly headache!. Jsut buy a uni filter, or jsut the pods man, oh and stop smoking what ever is it you're smoking.
sorry to be mean, but hwere do you live? thoses xj 900's are rare in america seeeing how they weren't allowed here, u must be canadian or european

    Be nice schooter.

Oz, he's right (even though he worded it very poorly and was more than a bit harsh). The pod design is to get the maximum amount of air, similar to a cone air filer on a car while lifting the restrictions of an enclosed air box. You'll not see any performance or milage gains from doing what you're referring to. Likely you'll see a decrease in performance and MPG's because you're restricting air four times over in an area that doesn't get tons of air to begin with. I'm personally using a K&N filter. Works great and only have to buy one for the life of the vehicle.

300 kilometers out of a 900cc engine isn't too bad.

if you can't find one for your bike , might try this and wrap on the old frame

I got a Unifilter for one of my XJ's - it was only $30 or so. Most bike shops should be able to get them.

on the subject of rejetting because of air fliter changes

my 750 went up 6 sizes on the main with pods
my 650 went up 6 sizes and it has a stock style filter
    each bike is different

    but on average
    k&n filter add 2
cut holes in airbox add 2
    pods add 4

pods in the box will flow better and you will probably have to rejet
you really need to check your plugs to see where you are at now

just wondering why you wanna put pods in the box one stock filter is usually cheaper than 4 pods

Just remove the paper out of a stock filter and glue in Uni-Foam filter foam. You never need to buy another filter (just clean and re-oil) and you don't need to re-jet.
