Yea, common to leak oil if you ride like a maniac and don't maintain it!

Wish we could rescue the poor girl

Common to leak oil? Oh Puh-leeez!
Always the excuse of the bike abuser.
This guy probably kicks his dog and says it's common for the dog to vomit blood!

yea i know, i wouldnt buy that unless he was selling it cheap, goes to show you what 600 bucks buys you, and the bike i bought was 700. and in 1000% better condition then that bike .

Just the old saying, do your research before you buy anything, and wait till you come across what you want, and thats what i did. and glad i did it too.

It just needs a good home. I wish I could have it. My vavle cover leaked a little when I got it but a quick reseal of the gasket fixed it like new. Another good bike with a bad owner.

Oil leak looks like it is coming from the crankcase cover. 14 bucks for the gasket and a tub of gasket glue. Took me two hours.

Still looks better than one I am working one. Stored in a barn for years with the plugs missing and other various things.

Funny, I've had two engines in My 650 and not one of them has leaked oil, I retired one with 70k on it that I"m rebuilding and the one I put in to replace it had 35k on it with no oil leaks. Makes one wonder what this idiot did or didn't do to it.

scares me if the motor was rebuilt 2 years ago and is leaking oil does not sound like someone did a very good job. If was stored since last winter with old gas i can see it needing carbs rebuilt. But its almost the end of july guess he did not feel like riding this year. For anyone that has not ever ridden one its no xj They are a big top heavy bike. I rode one a few times in the 80s when i had my seca 750 everytime i rode it couldnt wait to get back on the xj. But thats just my opinion. The xjs were the replacement for them no body wanted them sales were not good all the 750s could clean their clocks and they sounded funny also even the high performance 750 triple with the factory 3-1

yea, i bet its never been touched, and needs ALOT of work. because poor maintance, and not to mention the beat up take, like you said, all fuel lines are probably bad and a full carb rebuild, possiably a head rebuild, new plugs, breaks, tires, break lines, andi would bet wires.

    correct
I went to go possiably buy the saddle bags, because i am looking for a way to carry some stuff with me from going back and forth from stores, and was talking about the bike, Apparently hes rebuilt the motor, but that consist of replaceing a few bad gaskets that was leaking when he bought it, and then a few more started leaking so he replaced them and it still leaks, It leaks on the back near the shifter output shaft is on the left side of the motor and he tried to tell me this is common with aluminum bikes, and i just commented "mine doesnt leak a ouce of oil" and told him, its more then likey a poor gaskset seal of a warped peace of aluminum , which can cause the poor seal.
He said he stored it with gas all winter long and forgot to prepare it for the winter months (here in ohio we had a LONG winter last year) and it gumped up his 3 carbs, and i said yep, that sounds about right, must be carb issues, as it wont run currently, hes taken apart the carbs 3 times and put them back in and still no go, only way it was running this year was with choke fully on and it would stall out, which clearly is a carb issue.

needeless to say the saddle bags where too big so i passed and got the full scoop on the bike...

    I thought the same thing!!

I beat the crap out of my bike. I have a little built up oil at the front of my valve cover but not one drop of oil has hit my garage floor from my....ALUMINUM block.. Unless it was from me taking it apart, or changing my oil. I some how always spill oil! My $300 bike didn't leak any oil, and the thing had never once been taken care of. Really how hard is it to keep these things running? He must not be mechanically inclined. Some people just do not want anything to do with getting their hands dirty. I have never seen my dad get his hands dirty on any of his vehicles, but he still took them in some where. I was never like that, I have a hard time imaging how people aren't inclined to get there hands dirty.

If some one could pic the bike up it might be a good project.

He had a hans book , but his car was brand new and had 3 sets of golf clubs that looked new, and he was in a good subdevision, so im going with, hes clueless and said its been leaking since he bought it, and is tired of working on it, the seat was tapped together, and the pipes where all ok, dark black soot all over them , but it looks like he "tried" to fix it, but just has no clue what hes doing and cause more issues then he fixed i would bet.
