Possible short due to seat position?

    Okay first of all, I love my xj650 but I hate the seating lock setup. I have trouble getting it to seat correctly and the other day I was in a hurry and left only the right side locked. When I got back to my house, the taillight would stay lit when the ignition was off. Couldn't figure out what the problem was and of course the battery was dead this morning. Jumped it but it wouldn't hold a charge. The new battery has the bike running and the taillight is off once again. My suspect is the seat sitting on the wires for the signals and taillight but it vanished as quick as it appeared. Ideas?

    Usually shorted wires blow fuses. Is it posible that you had the key in the park position. That will turn on the taillight.

    Gets my vote too.

    Here's the problem: Virtually every one of these bikes I've ever seen has had the markings around the switch rubbed away. The "PARK" (P) position isn't the most intuitive option; it wouldn't occur to most folks (like me) unless you know about it.
