Accrding to my owner's manual the bike used to have a heavy anti-theft chain. I found the empty compartment where it was stored, near the helmet clip.

I have a wheel lock. I'd like to use the chain compartment for storage. Was there a lid or cover for this compartment or was the lid integral to the chain and lock? (Meaning, when you stowed the chain, the compartment lid was on the end of the chain, and you latched it down)

I'd like to find the lid or a way to close this thing up somehow.

No lid, no cover, just the wide open spaces.................... the powerlock, when folded neatly and bunched up and stowed in that compartment, filled it up completely!

And it is most definately NOT a "heavy anit-theft chain".

I've still got the original -- it's a light duty chain, covered in cheap yellow plastic, with a funky lock that uses the ignition key, and probably would take about 3 seconds to pick.

It's good for locking up my jacket though, when I leave it with the bike...

The powerlock locked onto that nipple that protrudes from the frame in front of the box. The chain got crammed in, then the head piece locked on there and captured the chain behind it.

Crap. That means I have to fab up some kind of cover for it if I want to use it as storage. And I don't want it to look ghetto.

Sushi I store bungee cords in mine. I took put heat shrink on the stud the lock is supposed to engage and slid a short piece of metal tubing over it (painted black). Holds the cords there just fine and is not noticeable at all.

I think the box is a bit lower on the 650 but it's an idea. I started to fab a cover and it has too many angles to mess with and still look good.

I saw someone who had fabbed up a cover from black PVC, and mounted a 12v power socket and Pos & Neg terminals in it. Thought that was a cool use...
