There is what I assume to be a factory security feature on the left side of the bike, it's a lock with a chain I think but my ignition key wont unlock it, it seems the lock is jammed? Does anyone know anything about this?
Also, how many gallons does the tank hold, I havn't succeeded in finding any specs.

I have had the same problem with the lock... try some penatrant oil. No luck on xjjojo's bike yet. Possibly a key was snapped in his though.

Gallons? Which bike -- the 650 MAXIM is 10+3 litres and the 750 MAXIM I think is about 17?

    Fuel - 750 Maxim's are 16 +3 guys...

Lock - Could be your bike got re-keyed by some PO and they forgot that lock, which is pretty common. Or could be stuck - try the penetrating lube both in the lock, and at the mounting stud. However, if it's a different key you're gonna have to drill it out if you want to remove it....

Just a side not Yamaha only used a few different keys in the 80's, Case in point my gas cap key( 81 650) will start my friends Maxim (82 750). He had basically the same problem with the powerlock. He had 2 one from his bike and one from his old bike, which he no longer had the key for. Long story short he locked it on the bike, without having key. We just asked everyone we knew with 80's xj's and eventually found a key that worked.

Hey, if anyone has an extra powerlock unit that is right for an '82 XJ650J, well, I need one! Key or no key! Thanks!
