Power loss (after a frosty night)

Every year when the days get shorter and colder, the bike seems to dislike it (can't blame it).

The other day I was leaving the house after a frosty night (just above freezing) and when I got around 5-6k RPM the bike lost power and the tach went back to 0rpm. Letting off of the gas a bit brang it back to life. Does that sound like a TCI issue (cold solder joints)? Can't see it being anything else, where it did idle and start OK.

Was ok after it was running for a while so maybe any dew/condensation had evaporated? Thanks!

Is the bike left outside overnight?

Not sure which bike, but one handy thing with the electronic tach (versus mechanical) is the needle drops to zero when you lose TCI power. Probably loose or corroded fuse block, or elsewhere in key switch, kill switch or relays before suspecting the TCI itself.

I'm with Roast644 on this having been down the same road... literally. One thing to keep in mind is the tach gets its signal from only one coil so if it goes to zero running that's a complete loss of power to the ignition system. I'd check the terminals going to the TCI module, coils and power and take a close look at the three wires coming from the LH side where the pickup coils are to make sure they're not pinched or compromised before condemning the TCI solder connections. These are known for solder issues and need a steady hand experienced in electronics to properly repair for reliability. The internals are conformal coated against moisture corrosion.

    Thanks folks,

Forgot to mention, 750 Seca (81).

Yep it's left outside over night and I've seen this happen before but not to this extent. I'll check those connections out and get the TCI looked at (locally if possible). I have all the kit to redo connectors, but nothing involving electronics.

Might try to source a new set of coils as well, call it a hunch.

I re-did the stator plug last year but if I'm honest it's been happening every year when it gets colder.
