My frame needs to be sanded down and re-primed again. Since it was sitting outside in the weather (on the ground of all places) there is some surface rust that needs to be dealt with. I don't know anything about primers or paints and have to ask ...
    1. What kind of primer should I use?
    2. What kind of paint should I use?

Also, I was thinking about painting it black, but I'm also considering silver. The bike was originally red. If I paint it black or silver, the frame will kind of disappear into the background but I think I want to make it pop a little. Any suggestions on a good contrasting color? Whatever color I use I'll also use for pinstriping or something on the gas tank so it all flows together. I do plan of keeping the original red color, maybe more of a candy apple though.

Best thing to do is to have it sand blasted to remove all the rust then use a good quality primer sealer then use a frame paint eastwood makes good paints. Most body shops will sandblast bike frames fairly cheap.

i dont how the price differs over there to here, but a mate of mine sort of restores bikes as a kind of hobby.he usually has his frames sand blasted and powder coated.he reckons it costs between £100-£120.it would probably cost close to that for a sand blast and rattle cans to spray yourself over here.may be worth looking into having yours done over there?

First, you need to get a primer that is compatible with your frame paint, or you risk an alligator skin looking reaction. They should be the same brand, or test the paint/primer.

I painted my 750 frame "color-shift" and depending on the light angle, it goes from black to green to purple !

Color shift sounds cool. I'm starting to lean toward yellow.
I've got a sandblaster here at home. Shouldn't be too much of a job. I do have a powder coating gun too, but my oven is too small for a frame.

I've never had a bike that disliked Rustoleum from the quart can. Load the gun and spray away!
