Primary chain guide replacement..

    How long does the primary chain guide usually last on these bikes (81' XJ650 Maxim)? I've read posts about how they eventually just fall apart with age due to the plastic.

    Just curious...

    There isn't a time frame because various environments and conditions have a different affect on the guide.

    What k-moe is saying is this has happened with more xj's (including his and mine) within the last 5 or so years.

    Yeah, it seems we have several threads on the go right now with members trying to find anything other than the broken guide as a reason their bike won't shift right. It's a complicated repair. Try to find any other problem in the shifter linkage first!
