I'm having an intermittent problem with my turn signals. They sometime will not work. I have checked all the wires, bulbs, connections and all are good. It's probably the flasher going bad on me, I have tried flashers from Auto Zone and none of them will work. When I tried a different flasher (after-market), I get nothing. They won't even light up the signals. Does the signal canceler have anything to do with after market flashers not working on my bike? Thanks in advance for the help.

The three pin relay socket is a red herring. The 3rd pin is related to the canceler. Have you tried a 2 pin?

I am having a similar problem, except I think my problem is in the controls. When I was in there last I blasted some contact cleaner in there and I think I eliminated some much needed lubricant. I base this on the fact that the lever seems to 'stick' on the left, and won't usually enable the left blinker. I had opened them up a few times before I used the contact cleaner with no ill-effects. One of these days I'll have the time and desire to open it back up and see what other damage I can do.

Yeah, someone else will chime in.
The flasher from the parts store is not the right one.
As KD said the 3pin or 2pin setup has something to do with it.
A search may get you quicker results.
    This happens on the bikes.

My flasher crapped out on me so I stopped at the local NAPA store for a quick replacement. The young dude at the counter brought me the "replacement" part at which time the older dude down the counter suggested we check the pin outs between old/new. They didn't match. I bought a replacement from Yamaha but the old one not working still bugged me so I took it apart. I cleaned the contacts and it kinda worked. After watching the thing work (cover off) for about 1/2 hour I gently wrenched on the support for the contact point flexure and now it is as solid as Sears used to be. They should be very reliable as the only mechanical parts are the contact points and associated flexure. The rest is solid state. Mine was just dirty and for some reason out of physical alignment.

Could be the canceler unit too. Mine would prevent the signal from functioning when it was cold among other weird things. Just unplug it for a bit and see if your problem goes away. Easy to check.

If that resolves your problem you can go without the canceler or replace it. If you use an autoparts flasher you will lose the canceler function. If the canceler is not it clean the flasher as described. I also have a working OEM flasher I will let go cheap if you need it. (see fore sale section)

Thank you for the replies. I will try cleaning the flasher a little more and also try removing the canceler.
