My $80 parts bike is running like a champ thanks to all the great advice by Robert, BigFitz, Padre, Rickomatic and others (scanned a lot of old threads). Still have to paint the tank, and somehow fix the 'vacuum actuated fuel valve' on the tank but I think this 650 runs better than my midnight (starts better anyway). Also the tach is sticky on this one just like my midnight so I have to clean it.

I want to give a plug to r1pilot83 who sent me a ton of great parts for a fair price -- if any of you need something, this guy is really great to deal with.

I think I probably put about $600 in parts including blinkers, TCI, coils, plugs, ignition switch, new tires, new battery, straight handle bars, headlight wings, headlight relay, side covers, gas tank, gas cap, brake reservoir and a bunch of misc bolts and nuts that were cannibalized by the PO. Did it make financial sense? probably not. Was it worth it? In terms of experience and satisfaction -- definitely.

I also want to plug Chacal for his great advice and keeping me up to date on what parts make the most sense for these old bikes.

So keep up the good work everyone -- this forum is great.

    Congratulations!

Don't start keeping a "balance sheet" you'll drive yourself crazy.

I'm working on a "everything you never wanted to know about the Yamaha vacuum operated fuel valve" photo-thingie, stay tuned.
