How does everyone say the word SECA? See-ka or Say-ka. We have a small town nearby called Waseca and it's pronounced wa-see-ka. I have heard Laguna Seca pronounced as say-ka.
I need your opinions because we Canadians think the last letter of the alphabet is zed, not zee.

Say-ka. It is short for Laguna Seca, the racetrack on the Monterey Peninsula in California.

And it translates to mean "Dry Lagoon"...........pronounced "say cah" (emphasis on the "say" portion, and a really soft "kah" sound).....of course, that's in Spanish. In English, go ahead and say "see-kah", you'll sound more normal.......... :D

Like Laguna Seca- - Saay - Ka

It's a boot time we cleared that up !

Did you know that "countach" is pronounced "Koon Ta!" and it's a rather rude outburst directed at a beautiful young woman?

    Or so I've read.

And when Carroll Shelby started racing the Mustang (shelby) Cobra in the SCCA series back in the 60's, the DeTomaso company came out with their Mangusta racer, Mangusta meaning "Mongoose" in Italian----and a mongoose is famously known in the animal world as "the snake killer"...

It's pronounced Ya-ma-ha! I always thought Seca was a stupid name anyways. If anyone asks me what kind of bike it is, I tell'm it's a 750 Yamaha.

PainterD, your bike is the most complete bit of customising I have seen, I like it. It makes me think about doing something other than stock. Wiz.

Thank you kindly for the compliment Wizard.
I never did like the looks and seating position of the Seca when I bought it, but I got such I good deal on it, I couldn't pass it up.
I tried for two years to ride it to work the way it was and even mounted a Vetter fairing on it, but I just couldn't get comfortable with it stock. After much deliberation on what to do.... I started cutting and removing all the excess junk I felt I didn't need and started building from scratch.
    Parts list includes:
    *Goldwing handlebars
    *Honda CB350 speedometer
    *Memphis Shades windshield
    *Harley sportster solo seat
    *Harley bobbed rear fender
*Yamaha Maxim 650 header pipes with Harley mufflers
    *Yamaha Maxim gas tank

Alot of the other stuff was fabricated in the shop by me, including the paint and pinstriping. I absolutley love to ride it now. It's lighter, faster and a hell of alot more comfortable.

Looking at promotional materials released at the time of the bike's introduction, it was indeed named after the Laguna Seca track. So the correct pronunciation is say-kah. Unless you want to look like a geek...

    Feel better now?
    Good.
Glad we got that settled without any problems.

Although, there are some folk who have trouble pronouncing their own names sometimes.
Then, there's where you happen to be in relation to the Mason-Dixon line.
Also, blood alcohol count. Makes even the A-B-C's tough sledding.
Lastly, those with dyslexia! (Or, les-dix-ee-ah, ... as they call it.) Ca-say?

You could go with David Hobbs' "sek-ker" but I think that has more to do with where you are in relation to the ATLANTIC OCEAN.

I've always said say-ka. I guess I'll just continue to pronounce it that way.

PS I bought the Say-ka after I sold my Yamaha y-Zed 125!
