if chacal on here cant help you, i know theres a guy on ebay that says they can make "any length".... you just need to choose your ends and length and all that. i understand they are a little long, but i got drags on both of my maxims without any issues.... except the chokje, but i just rerouted the slack on it....

Shortening cables is a breeze, making them longer not so.

Can you shoot me his info - a friend wants more comfy bars on a ZZR1200 and this would help the project.

Thinkin that if i had that problem with my cables being to long with drag bars, i'd look into some dogbone risers, something to think about

I am not afraid to ask the dumb questions, would anyone be so kind as to go thru the steps of shortening the throttle cable? I have about a foot of excess since I altered the bike.

    Thanks

I have the same problem, cables are now too long. How do you shorten them?

First measure the amount of free inner cable, then work out how much you need to cut off the outer, cut the 'bullet' off one end of the inner & draw out, remove the cap from the outer, cut the outer, make sure you havn't squashed the coil, if you have, open it up with a bradawl, put the cap back on, slide the inner back inside the outer & cut to length, make a new bullet, use the smooth shank of a bolt of the right dia' & cut to length, drill a hole through the centre just larger than the inner cable, on one side, open the hole 1/8" deep with a larger drill, slide on to the inner & fray the wires out then solder.

Off topic but might help.... I broke my throttle cable. Went to ace hardware.. they have a lawn more throttle cable end in one of there pull out drawers. You have to file down the edge to get it into the carb slot but worked great... has a screw to tighten cable.. and I mixed a little glue to help keep it in. Worked great if you don't feel like. Messing with old end. Just my 2.cents

I thought there was a bit more detail than that? for instance, I thought you not only frayed the cable back, but you also are supposed to bend the frayed portion back into the bullet's hole, so it is essentially doubled over? That, and I thought you were supposed to not simply solder the whole thing, but are supposed to dip the end assembly into molten silver solder? silver solder is not the same as standard solder, right? Can we get verification on all this? Don't really want anybody's home-shortened cables come apart on them, on the road. 8O

Silver solder is stronger than regular plumbing or wiring solder.

Would "acid" or "rosin" core be better??

Geez, somebody's defensive! I wasn't ridiculing you or your method, wizard, I just had the previous questions, cause what you wrote wasn't quite the same as what I've read, before, and I was merely looking for verification.

    Touchy, touchy.....
