I have heard you guys talking about putting sportster mufflers on your XJ's as an alternative to the stock mufflers. I have a standard 4-2 exhaust and was wondering how this was done. The existing mufflers are welded to a crossover piece that then hooks to the 4 header pipes. So do I need to make a collector to attach the new mufflers to the headers or is it something different?

the standard practice is to cut the original mufflers off just past where they join to the "Y" piece. You retain the two "Y's" and the crossover pipe, so in effect it becomes the collector.
