So ive been searchin around on what shocks i need to lower my 82 maxim 650. I cant seem to find any aftermarket short shocks for a Maxim, ive heard that savage or rebel 250 shocks work to lower it a bit, but im wanting to lower the rear fender about an 1-2 inches from the back tire and dont know if they will lower it that much. does anyone one know what set of shocks i could use to achieve that.

i wouldnt swap springs, these stock shocks are J U N K JUNK, I bought a set of rebel 250 shocks brand new for 69 smacks plugs like 15 shipping lowered it really nice, though I cant tell how it looks on a stock bike cuz mine is FAR from stock

Yeah, ok fine, but how much does your bike WEIGH compared to a Rebel 250?

I can't imagine the Rebel shocks doing a proper job of damping and rebound control.

Same for Suzuki Savage shocks. The bike is considerably lighter than an XJ, and its original shocks were junk just like the ones that came on the XJs if not worse.

Better to buy a set of aftermarket shocks and springs appropriately rated for your bike's weight, but in a shorter length.

    10.5" sportster shocks here.

Nice drop and my XJ is less weight than the sportster but I'm more wieght than most people so it averages out!

How close to the stock fender I have no idea. It was in the parts bin before the shocks came.

329 for a rebel, I have some weight ripped off my bike so prolly around 500.

but i havent ridden the bike yet, and i dont know what setting the shocks are on, but they dont squat with the weight of the bike and probably make the rear end sink down 1/2 inch or less when i sit on it legs off the ground. and i dont really care how they ride, because struts are an ungodly ugly and lazy way to hardtail a bike so i went with shocks, was gonna buy used savage shocks, but those are more than brand new rebel shocks
