question on PO's wiring/fuses

    So, I'm installing the new fusebox this afternoon... but something's questionable, and I wanted to get a little input, so I know what else to watch for...

    The first thing I noticed is that the old fusebox has the Main and Headlight wires switched. That seemed odd, but I can switch them back to match the new fusebox...

    Then.... I got curious and looked at the fuses in the old fusebox. Every single fuse was a 30A.

    On my XJ750, it should be:

    Main -> 30A
    Headlight -> 10A
    Turn Signal -> 10A
    Ignition -> 10A

    Everything worked when I tested the bike before buying it. But, I don't know electricity so well. The issue will be fixed by installing my new fusebox. but what about the past? Anything I should be look out for? I don't get how the previous owner didn't even pay attention to the fuses they should've used.

    Sounds like PO put 30amp fuses in all positions .

    Running higher amp fuses is only a problem when something goes wrong. Nothing went wrong, since the wiring harness didn't catch fire. Go with the proper fuse ratings and everything will be fine.
    While you're at it, go ahead and clean all of the electrical connections with deoxidizing spray, and put dielectric grease on them before hooking the plugs back up. That will reduce the overall resistance of the harness and help prevent future problems.
