quick alternator question

    i have a 82 xj 1100 and the alt is cooked the glue holding the stator and the rotor wires in place is gone and its shorting on itself. will the alt off any other bike fit this one?

    Maybe one from an XS1100.
    If it does i think you will need the whole lot, including the crankcase cover and the windings.
    The brushes are different between the two models. I sold one from the XJ to an XS owner because he told me it creates more power than a standard XS one, so perhaps it does fit.
    It could work, don't take it as gospel, and might just do until a proper replacement is found.
    Andreaweiss who advertises in the for sale section might have one.

    Only the 81 xs11 has the same alternator. The 78 to 80 xs11 has a brushless alternator and the stator is slightly different.
