ok i have a 1980 xj 650 with some slight mods coming thinking of going to pods but have herd that they are a bit*h to tune... my bike had 225/80 air jets and 120/40 fuel jets... going with a mac 4 in to 2 taperd ehxaust as well.... the bike ran very rich b4with stock pipes and stock filter but made good power... do you think that i should go with the pods with this set up or just stick with the stock air box and just get a better air filter... thanks for all the help... mark

i have K&N pod filters on my 1982 seca 650 and i love them they are easy to maintain andshould lean out the mixture if you are haveing a rich problem. as for settings i just left the jets stock and cut the rear baffles out of my mufflers and got a noticeable power gain. hope this helps somehow.

i put pods on my xj550 and found a power increase without cutting out my baffles so you sould be good with an alredy rich mixture i didnt have to jet or anything just richin up my settings so youll be good.

HOLY CRAP - you're not kidding about running rich! Stock mains for our bikes are 111/112's! Even the Stage1 jet kit only takes you up to a 118...

With those jets in there feel free to replace both exhaust and air filtration - should help a load.

As for air filter - K&N in the stock box or Pods - your choice. Stock will be easier to tune in, but the pods will flow more.

I bought some pod filters for my xj for 25 bucks for a set of four... if your interested i'll hook you up with the guy. so far they've been totally comparable to K&N's just alot more friendly on the wallet!
