After my last ticket I have decided it couldn't hurt to get some sort of a detector that can move back and forth between my bike and my car...

So something that can be plugged in or ran wireless sounds like a plus.

    I was thinking about this:

Any recommendations? I'm aware that if I don't speed I won't have to worry... But in all honesty better safe than sorry. And this would have prevented my last ticket.

Just for anyone else that is looking for one.... I ended up deciding to go with the escort redline. Has some of the best reviews and ratings as well as the farthest range. It will be swapped back and forth from my car to bike.

Also escort is doing a cool program right now. As opposed to shelling out 4-500 at once you can do like 179.00 and 12 mo's at 29.99 no interest.

i'd check your laws first, in many states radar detecting radar is illegal, and theres not too many places you can hide that on the bike.

    Ryan,

I was gone all weekend so I'll get back to you via email but my detector is an Escort 8500 X50(I wasn't sure before since I don't pay attention to stuff like that once it's installed). As mentioned, check the local laws....Virginia for instance outlawed them many years ago so as I cross the Woodrow Wilson bridge, I reach up and "release" the velcro base and slip it into my left pocket. The one that you bought is VERY nice but I'll give you a bit of advise.....carefully take it apart and put a very light coating of clear silicone on the joints if it's not already weatherproof. You saw the pic how mine sits right behind the faring on my Vstrom but you still want to protect it from large amounts of moisture. As I told you last week, it saved me around a corner and down a hill......it's common for it to warn me 3/4 mile ahead of time around corners and a solid 1/4 mile BEFORE line of sight! In straight line(in Ohio) it wanred me from over 2 miles out! The most important thing is for you to find out which bands your local LEO's use for radar and when your detector goes off, slow down NOW!!! Don't make the mistake of looking aorund for them...by then, you'll be cooked!!

PS I also use a "smart cord" so I can silience the active alarm, then it goes into reset so it's ready to re-warn without touching the detector.

Thanks for the concern guys believe it or not here in Missouri not only is the detector completely legal; I've even seen guys with laser "jammers" on their sport bikes which are legal for some reason here as well. So all good on the legal front. Thank you jeff for the tip on weather proofing it. That is an excellent tip. Also for any of you guys that are curious the redline is actually supposedly undetectable by the devices used to check for them. Which is why a good deal of truckers use them as well.
