    I've got a 1986 Yamaha Yx600 Radian it's got a motor out of an fj/xj600 but it's basically the same motor as the radian originally had only it has an oil cooler, and I believe slightly hotter cams, and originally came with 2mm larger carbs. I've got a set of Radian carbs on it, and it was running fine after the jet change. But all of the sudden after I tried adjusting the idle mixture screws and the float heights it is running horribly at anything over about 1/4 throttle from about 4-6 grand on up, like it sorta spits and sputters and has almost no power to speak of.

    I've tried resetting the floats to where they were at, and I know they have to be atleast close to where they were but it's made no change what so ever on the bikes performance. The idle mixture screws are only about 1 turn out from where they were before, and those shouldn't play any effect on higher RPM and higher throttle power should they? Whenever I take the carbs out the inside of the throttle bores, and the intake manifolds always seem to be wet with gas. I just don't really know where to go with it or what to look for. I've tried setting everything back to where it was but it doesn't seem to change anything. Maybe I'm not doing something right? Or are there any other things that could have gone wrong that I'm just not thinking of?

    Sorry for the insanely long post, it's just been driving me off the walls the past week or so. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    The bike had 97.5 main jets and 30 pilot jets stock, and is now running 112.5 mains, and 35 pilots because it's got filter pods and a 4into1 header with aftermarket pipe on it. Just incase that info helps anyone. But it at one point did run pretty well on this setup until I suspected the bike was running a little lean above 8-9k when it seemed to lose some of it's pull

    Thanks again in advance.

    HOW are you adjusting the floats?

    How are you adjusting the mixtures?

    It's no different than carb-tuning an XJ:

    VALVES checked and adjusted;

    -bench sync
    -float levels set using fuel and the clear tube method;

    (remount carbs)

    -vacuum sync
    -mixture adjustment.

    And, just like an XJ, skip any steps or try to take shortcuts and you will be at it for a while. How long? Until you quit trying to shortcut the process and do it right: all the steps and in order.
