I'm going to rehab a set of carbs. I had no problem getting the old butterfly screws out after grinding off the end that was mushroomed. I've read about using the blue screw locktite when replacing them. I'm wondering if there'll be any benefit to get new butterfly screws since the blue locktite won't do any good on the exposed threads.

Seems like I should be able to use the old screws again.

    Any past experience with this?

    Thanks

I reused my old screws and used blue Loctite. I got no problem doing that.

If you're really squeamish about the screws coming loose and being sucked into the motor, use red Loctite. You'll need heat to take them out in the future if necessary.

    I'd use the RED.

When is the next time you'll be removing those screws.

    Probably, ... Never!

I re-use them as long as they are not stripped.

When is the next time I'd need to remove them? The next time I'd have to do throttle-shaft seals.....hopefully never.

Throttle shaft seals... These are to be replaced, I've had a set waiting for over a year to do this.

Just for fun I tried sucking on the end of one of the outer seals and yup, no problem sucking & blowing by shaft seal; not a lot of bypassing but enough for sure.

When I removed them they were the kind of brittle that rubber gets under heat for long periods of time. Definitely hardened and leaky. One squeeze and they would have cracked instead of folded.

Never sounds good.....but I tend to think about the next guy as much as I do myself. I bet the original owner of my cousin's Model-T never thought it'd still be in service today.
