    Hey all,
First off I want to thank everyone for contributing to this forum. It's been a great source of information for me as I try and get my '82 XJ650 Maxim back in riding shape. So far every time I've had a question, all I've had to do is search the forum and someone else on the forum has brought it up. But I haven't been able to a post on unusually long warm up times.

My 82 Maxim 650 takes a really long time to warm up. Even the past few days it's taken about 6-7 minutes with choke, even in weather that's been 95F+ degrees. So far I've adjusted the valves, put a new air filter in, cleaned off the plugs and cleaned the carbs out and even run sea foam for a few hundred miles.

My gut says that this symptom points to a carb issue, although I've cleaned them out. Can anyone relate to this? Or does anyone know if this is likely a carb issue? If so, is there a specific passage that I should check?

    Thanks!

Start by wet-setting your float levels. "Dry-setting" them is only a starting point.

Double-check your running vacuum sync with the YICS blocked.

Welcome wingmax. I do the same thing, get most of my answers from somebody else's suffering - I mean posted questions ;)

I have a very similar prob but haven't finished carb cleaning. So I'll watch this one. Sorry I can't help.

start it up and go, shut the choke off after you shift to third. in a half mile you should have a low idle but not need any choke.
and you'll be seven minutes farther down the road!
