On my way to work last Friday. The rear brake was soft, and then grabbed real hard. I live 2 miles from work. Rode home with no problem. On Saturday, same thing. After it grabbed, then it worked fine.

Come Monday, no resistance to the rear brake. The pedal goes way low and then BIG GRAB. Due to the continuing saga of working on my son's CBR600, I have not had time to open up my rear brake yet.

Any ideas from anyone what to look for? I had it looked at last year by a local shop and he said that the rear brakes were fine.

    Many thanks for any help

The shoe's friction material becomes unglued due to time.
Do not ride on the road until you inspect/fix it.
It should only take 10 - 15 minutes to drop the tire out.

Your rear brake springs may have come loose, or the brake shoe friction material may have delaminated from the metal shoe itself......either way, you need to get this issue inspected and remedied/fixed before you ride the bike again!
