I have a 1980 xj650 want to lower the rear end. currently have 12.5" shocks on. Wanted to know how low i could go with out messing up my drive shaft angle. would like to do 11". If this is already talked about I could not find it. Please post the thread if it is. If not please give me some advice.

    Thanks in advance.

im sure 11" would be fine i have read on here that some people do 10.5" thats what i plan on doing soon to my 700 but i have heard that shock selection is very important try to find one with similar spring rates and such

I had to lower my 82 650 Seca as I could only touch the ground on my tip toes, so rather than carve the seat down, I put Emgo 11 inch shocks on and can now touch, flat footed.
These shocks are not rated for high speed or passengers. I'm a lightweight so bottoming out is not an issue. Make sure there not Honda type shocks and the eyelet sizes are the same as yours.

Anyone find any lower shocks that will work on an xj750 but can withstand faster speeds or passengers? And how does that affect the front end? Do I need to lower the front?

You will want to lower the front if you lower the rear. The Seca 750 has a fairly quick steering setup and just lowering the rear will make the bike even more prone to headshake. Any good shock manufacturer will make shocks to the length you request.
