    Go with the "Low Buck" Progressives. The ones you linked to should work, however I believe the 13" ones are more of a close match to the stock length, so you should check your's off the bike. You may be able to go shorter, but be advised they may give you slower steering response.

    I got the black 13 inchers for my 85 XJ750X and am very happy with the ride and control over the worn out stock shocks.

    Get the Heavy Duty progressives from XJForever. Price is close to every where else you will find them, customer service is great, and you will get all the spacers you could ever need to get them to fit correctly. As for the HD vs. the standard, and someone stop me if I'm wrong, but I think the Heavy Duty ones are recommended for even the lightest rider and carrying loads on a Maxim due to the weight of the bike itself. Either way, I weigh 165 lbs and the HD progressives seem to be the right fit for me. Much better ride than stock and the handling is much much better. The stockers were supposed to be replaced every 6k or so I think as well.

    I agree with the others posted here (although I am putting off my rear shock upgrade on my Turbo, but I can really tell that I need it after I upgraded the front).

    I bought some of those low dollar shocks that you linked to in ebay (for about $80). The problem with them is that they have two springs (for that "progressive" action), and the lower springs coil bind when you just sit on the bike. The result is a HORRIBLY stiff shock that is no fun to ride on (less coils = stiffer spring). I installed them on my 750 seca and then quickly changed to the progressive shocks.

    I'm not all that well versed in fine tuning my suspension, but I can tell you that they didn't feel right at all.

    @xhondahack.10535

    Question regarding how you installed these - the eye's slightly too large but the included spacers are too small - I'm thinking of getting some rubber tape and making a sleeve but just wondered if you found a better solution?

    Thanks
    Rich.

    I actually got my set used off e-bay. Came with the spacers for the XJ700 already.

    Not sure why you wouldn't have an assortment of sleeves to adapt them to your bike? Check the application and contact Progressive to see if they can help.
