Ive been rebuilding my bike for a while now, with many setbacks (sigh). today i was reassembling the final drive and rear wheel. When I put the spindle back through the rear wheel and mounted everything properly, there is still a small gap between the edge of the spindle and the plate that contains the rear drum brakes. the bike is an 82' maxim. I wil post a pic as soon as i get around to finding my camera and using it. the only option i see is to tighten the locking nut. the problem with doing this is by the time the spindle is snug the locking nut can no longer be locked as the prongs are past the hole where the pin goes through. On the other side there is just the pinch bolt and pin to hold the other side of the spindle.

Have you got all of your parts? Check the parts breakout on the Yamaha site just to make sure you aren't missing anything (it does happen once in a while).

Mine has a big washer about 1/4" thick that goes over the axle bolt, and butts to the brake plate, spacing it and the larger part of the axle bolt. Is yours there?

Let me know if you are missing something, I have most of these as "extras" off a parts bike, yours for shipping.
    Thanks
