Wondering what the consensus is on rechroming header pipes. I've found three decent ones and I'm looking for one more for the number 1 on my 82 XJ650 Maxim. But the ones that I'm replacing are rusty but fairly dent free and no holes, and it's got me wondering about getting exhaust parts replated. Has anyone done so? Is it worth it?
Also, I've seen reference to other options with exhaust stuff. I keep thinking too that stainless steel would be great. But how would you get it done? A custom fabricator? What about painted exhaust? What? Strip off the chrome and use special paint?
All just for curiosity for now.

Yes, I had a header pipe done for a single cylinder bike I race, took the original header to a place that does mandrel exhaust bending and said "copy that in stainless", lovely pipe and $80NZ for it

If you're rechroming the pipes need to be in mint condition before you get them done, old chrome stripped off then polished before chroming, it could possibly work out at more than having them done in stainless you'd need to price it up

Many platers won't do any exhaust components as there is too great a risk of contaminating their solutions.

I'm having the 4 headers and crash bars done on my 81 750 seca. They have light surface rust on them. Haven't got them back yet. a 6 to 8 week wait. $300. I had my 83 750 maxim headers ceramic coated. They turned out very nice. I would go with the ceramic coating if they are rusty.
