I have my sissy bar and headlight bucket that I would like to have rechromed. Is there anything I need to do to prepare these parts before I drop them off? I have two galvanized saddlebag brackets I made that I think I'd like chromed also. Will the galvanization have a negative impact on the chroming process?

What would I expect to pay to have this size of parts chromed?

    Thanks.

preparation is the key to a good finish

the old chrome needs to be stripped off then the parts need to be polished to get rid of any imperfections, other wise any little nicks or pits will show through, some places do a chrome only, others may "triple dip" copper, nickel, chrome which provides a far better longer lasting finish

then you need to maintain it, a good quality polish and some people also use a car wax

I don't know about the galv finish, I would suggest asking the chromer

thats a tough one otter. The price range can be quite huge,,even from me to you. depends on the quality you get. as far as what to do usually just bring the stuff to them, they have ways to do things so it's done right. So you did make it yourself then? do show pics i likes to see others handy work

The guy I was referred to pretty much does small motorcycle parts - mainly custom Harley stuff. Nothing larger than a fender. His work comes highly recommended. I was thinking of redoing the front foot pegs so I can use off-the-shelf stuff, and those would go to him to.

Here is a really good link to a description of the rechroming process for motorcycle parts that I came across.
