I'm finishing off my bobber build, finally, and I'm to the point where I need to do one of two things:

    1. Add a rear fender (without access to a welder or having the OEM one anymore) to protect the electronics

    2. Move the electronics without swapping out the airbox for pods.

I'd prefer doing 2, as I like the look of no fender (even in the rain, yes). I just don't know if there is a way I'm not thinking of to do it. The airbox is pretty big, afterall, and the battery isn't exactly small.

I'm debating on just tracking down some kind of, I dont know, sheet plastic and mounting it to cover like the old plastic fender did, but I'm afraid that wouldn't keep up.

    Any suggestions, guys?

Batter relocation would probably be easier if you buy a smaller battery. The new LiFe bateries are much more compact (but spendy) and even a glass matte sealed unit is smaller than a big ole lead acid slosher. Another advantage ie either of those can be laid in side, giving more options as to location.

Can't really give specific suggestions without knowing what bike you have and what you did to change it. I know mine went on top of the spine, under the gas tank, but my tank is from a Virago, and I also intentionally raised the (new solo) saddle to provide more saddle - footpeg room (going semi-rearset, cafe racer ergos). Lot more options for relocating the electronics once you strip the bike down to just the frame and replace all the body work...

i thought about that once but never moved in it.
have to use the minimum wiring, then move the reg/rec and tci on a flat pan behind the airbox right between the frame rails, cover the bottom with a aluminum pan.
move the battery down on the swingarm or even under it, need to use a gel battery
keep your eye out for a aluminum road sign, their just right for fabing stuff like that

I had thought of moving the battery, hadn't looked at the new types though.

As for what I've done to the bike, not much. Basically just hacked the frame off right behind the shock mounts, threw burly slammer shocks on, and mounted a solo seat with a hinge under the gas tank bolt, sitting on rubber chair foot things on the frame in the rear. Nothing amazing at all.

I'll keep an eye out for the sign. Would I be able to just bolt it on by drilling into the frame? I don't have access to a welder.
