    Hey pal,

Bigfitz or one of the other 550 guys will know best, but here's the rough process:

    - Remove the tank.
    - Find yourself one or two nice long stemmed philips screwdrivers. That's pretty much all you'll need for tools.
    - Unhook the throttle cable at the controls by disassembling the right hand side controls.
    - Unhook the throttle cable at the carb once you have some slack from undoing the top.
    - Unhook the choke cable at top and bottom as per above. (Easier. No disassembly required.)
    - Loosen the airbox (3 screws? Maybe 4? One top, one at each side.)
    - Undo the rings round the intake manifolds and
    - Undo the rings around the airbox rubber connectors,
    - Pull out the rubber connectors between the airbox and the carb, starting with the edges.
    - That should give you enough room to start wiggling the carb out. A little WD 40 can't hurt. Once it's a bit loose just rock it up and down for awhile and it will eventually pull out.

That looks like a lot of steps but it's really pretty easy. You can do it, man! Once you're done doing whatever you're doing to the carb, getting them back on is a bit tricky. Get yourself a ratchet strap, run the band in front of the engine and around the carb and synch it on that way. Works like a charm.

If someone else has anything to add your input is much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Aaron.

There is no need to remove the throttle or choke cables at the controls.

Here is how I do it:

    1. remove the gas tank
    2. loosen the screws on the clamps to the manifolds and airbox boots
    3. unhook the choke cable from the carb rack
    4. remove the back bolt from the top of the airbox
    5. loosen the 2 front bolts on top of the airbox
    6. slide the airbox as far to the rear of the bike as possible
    7. carefully pull the carbs towards the rear of the bike, freeing them from the manifolds
    8. tilt the front of the carbs up and wiggle them out of the airbox boots
    9. carefully work the carb rack out the right side of the bike
    10. disconnect the throttle cable

This is the easiest way I have found to do it. I have done it many times in the 25 years I have owned the bike. Be very careful not to damage the carb manifolds. Install in reverse order.
