    Hey there,
I am a first time XJ750 maxim owner, but have been riding for 30+ years.
So, I got a great deal on the bike. It started quickly and drove well.
Since I hate turn signals I took all four off after I got home. I unscrewed and snipped the wires.
Now the bike wont turn over. The headlight turns one, but the engine doesnt turn over.
Any ideas on what I need to do to fix this?

    Thanks,
    Rico

    Welcome to XJbikes

It shouldn't matter that the signals were removed.

The bike has a safety circuit so the starter will not engage unless the safety circuit and components are functioning. It must be in neutral, or when in gear the clutch must be pulled in and the side stand up for the starter to engage.

The kill switch must be set to "RUN" for the starter to engage

Does the oil indicator light illuminate when the starter button is pressed?

check the run/kill switch the way they sit on control it is easy to shut it off and not know it.

if the clutch safety switch fails open bike will only start in neutral even when clutch lever is pulled in .

pull the sidestand safety relay to bypass the side stand switch

check ignition fuse if it is glass the clips are prone to problems .

chase the voltage from fuse for ignition to tci and solenoid maybe you have a bad solinoid or you need to clean the starter switch in the control

-Did you blow a fuse when snipping wires?

-did you snip a wrong wire as well?

-maybe your kickstand switch is sticky

    - are you in neutral?

I feel stupid replying with the fix. As someone mentioned the kill switch was set to off. The paint has worn off the switch so I paid no attention. I turn it off with the key.
Anyway, thanks so much for the replies. It is nice to have a place with knowledgeable folks.
    Richard.

Now if the sun would just shine a bit.

Mine wouldn't start today. Then I remembered that the battery is sitting on my desk. Sometimes the solution isn't simple, the mechanic is!
